Sick day

Ingredients for fighting the flu

This wasn’t one of those days where you’ll take the lightest cough or faintest sore throat as an excuse to stay home from work. It was a full-on flu assault that put me down with a raging fever, constant shivering, body aches, and a hacking cough. The most intense thing I did all day was take a shower, during which I almost passed out. Great times!

Taking notes

Taking notes at a picnic table in Rockport

I spent the past two days riding through the eastern part of Skagit County, which ended up being mostly as boring as it sounds. But the purpose of the trip was to load the bike up with everything I’ll be taking with me this summer and live with it for a couple of days, to make sure that all the gear still works the way it’s supposed to after a winter in storage. The equipment passed the test with flying colors. The rider, less so.

Advertisement for an awful-sounding rural rock show

Going from the White Horse Grange to Skidders in Darrington sounds like a big step up. I didn’t notice the subtle detail added to the teacup poodles sign until long after I took this picture.

Yellow flowers in a roundabout near our apartment

I spent a few minutes trying to level this picture horizontally, but our part of Greenwood makes that impossible. All of the houses, roads and sidewalks sit on top of marshy ground that has moved and settled in many different directions over the last 50 years, such that nothing sits at a comparable angle to anything else. At least our traffic control devices look awesome.

It’s pretty much guaranteed that if you’re having a birthday or celebrating a major holiday, Desiree is going to make you something completely original and amazing. It’s not easy; she just makes it look that way.

Coco, with a few wild hairs poking up from behind her ears

The world’s most vigilant guard dog can’t be bothered by the unshaven goofball with the hippopotamus shirt.

The official t-shirt for the world’s greatest non-band is getting a nice vintage look in its old age.

Coco the Chow Chow on a windy afternoon

Coco is good at many things. Looking at absolutely everything except the camera is one of them.
